“How surely gravity’s law,
strong as an ocean current,
takes hold of even the smallest thing
and pulls it toward the heart of the world.
Each thing…
each stone, blossom, child…
is held in place.
Only we, in our arrogance,
push out beyond what we each belong to
for some empty freedom.
If we surrendered
to earth’s intelligence
we could rise up rooted, like trees. (!)
Instead we entangle ourselves
in knots of our own making
and struggle, lonely and confused.
So, like children, we begin again
to learn from the things,
because they are in God’s heart;
they have never left {The Divine Essence}.
This is what the things {nature} can teach us:
to fall,
patiently to trust our heaviness.
Even a bird has to do that
before he can fly.
—Rainer Maria Rilke [1]
The Soul’s truth and connection to Divine Wisdom can be found in nature.
When we sit with nature,
When we connect our heart to the heart of the world…
We feel the presence of the Divine and our place within that presence.
We see the cycle of life – of death and renewal, that nature and we are constantly within.
There is freedom found in nature and the cues to living it brings.
Freedom in remembering our place and our source.
Freedom in trusting our heaviness.
Freedom in the acceptance
that everything changes,
And eventually
Everything erodes or dies
Life invites our cooperation and participation but also allows us {through free will}
to resist, oppose, or deny it {to deny our growth, our truth, our connection… Love …The Divine}
We are free to cling to our Ego,
to our fears, to our greed…
to climb
or to descend.
But eventually
We must surrender {to life, truth, to Love…} in order to
“Rise up rooted like trees”
And sometimes
We must fall in order to fly.
