Countdown to the solstice,
SOLSTICE ADVENT Day 2:
Meet yourself where you are…
Love yourself
Accept yourself
Grow your worth in your own mind and heart
And you will find you understand what it means to
… “Feast on your own life”…
Meet yourself where you are.
Not where you’d like to be,
or where you pretend you are…
Meeting yourself where you are
is sitting in the uncomfortable feelings
- such as grief, guilt, or anger,
and instead of asking those feelings to go away, asking them why they’ve decided to stay.
Meeting yourself where you are
Is looking at yourself without judgment.
It’s utilizing this moment not to “fix things”
But to offer compassion for yourself
the way your best friend would if they saw you hurting.
Today,
Check in with yourself.
Ask yourself questions
Be open to what comes in response.
It may not be an answer or a solution
It may be an emotion or other insight
Whatever comes
Receive it with love, compassion, gratitude…
The fact that you are purposefully connecting, asking, and searching the path towards peace of mind
is progress and the process of meeting yourself where you are.
This poem ‘Love after Love’ by Derek Walcott further harkens to this work on self-love and self-acceptance.
” The time will come
when, with elation
you will greet yourself arriving
at your own door, in your own mirror
and each will smile at the other’s welcome,
and say, sit here. Eat.
You will love again the stranger who was your self.
Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heart
to itself, to the stranger who has loved you
all your life, whom you ignored
for another, who knows you by heart.
Take down the love letters from the bookshelf,
the photographs, the desperate notes,
peel your own image from the mirror.
Sit.
Feast on your life.”
