This New Moon
– Saturday, September 28th,
the first New Moon of autumn,
is Persephone’s moon.
{ as with all guides, the aspects she possesses help to enhance those same aspects in our own lives. Especially when we call upon her and invite her into our lives. Create a personal relationship with her. Get to know her energy. }
The goddess of spring & of the underworld begins her descent,
bringing about the dormancy of fall and the reflection of winter.
For as she withdrawals to the earth, so too do the plants after harvest.
{And as she arises in the spring, the plants awaken behind her}
PERSEPHONE is a sister goddess of The Great Mother Goddess, Gaia.
Yet Persephone looks upon Gaia as both sister & mother.
(Persephone being the “young maiden” aspect of The Divine Feminine…
Gaia possessing all aspects fully and completely. Therefore, Gaia being one of the ultimate incarnations of The Divine Feminine)
She is with us year-round
but is especially dominant, in a more active way, in the Fall and Spring.
While in her winter’s rest in the underworld,
she calls to us from deep within.
Pushing us through heightened intuition and soul stirrings.
Challenging us to enter the inner darkness we tend to avoid the rest of the year.
Persephone is beautiful, gentle and sympathetic. She radiates a wonderful, bright light.
Persephone will help to bring clarity by shedding light upon those “dark” areas of your life, struggling relationships, and your unconscious (the “underworld” within).
Persephone can help you strengthen those areas where you are vulnerable.
She is especially willing to help women who are in dysfunctional or abusive relationships.
{And to understand and work to change those behaviors within yourself}
She is a guide for the seer…
the medicine woman…
and helps us to strengthen & connect more deeply with those aspect of ourself during these months of reflection.

POMEGRANATES:
Though some associate Persephone with apples,
she has always shown me that pomegranate is the fruit that represents her.
It keeps her tied to both the upper and the lower realms.
It tempts her and calls her forward.
To welcome her and entice her, place pomegranates (or representations of them)
on your feasting table, altar, or around the home as decorations.
Bring them into your feasts,
Or enjoy some pomegranate tea or wine
or a cocktail/ mocktail infused with pomegranate juice.

FALL into winter:
With the arrival of autumn’s first NEW MOON,
Persephone prepares her retreat towards the underworld, where she will finally go to rest come winter.
Her presence in the fall mirrors that of her shift from the active, physical rebirth and growth of spring (into summer),
to a state of heightened intuition and interaction with the spirit realm, as the veil begins to thin.
As she prepares for her descent,
she is engaging with the harvest.
Gathering her resources – the gifts {and lessons} collected so far this year, that will assist her in the reflection, healing, and deep inner work of the coming winter months.
As well, she is reaffirming and strengthening her relationship with the other realms,
and assisting us and our relationships,
during this time of the thinning of the veil.
WINTER
In winter, Persephone is called back to HADES and her home in the underworld for the dark months.
The deep “intuitive” presence she has in winter is about rest, reflection, and inner preparation. Her winter presence is mental, emotional, and spiritual – often spiritually challenging, as we are called to do “the deep work” of the inner self,
which is often challenging (but necessary)
as it stirs our inner demons and our fears of the dark.
SPRING:
Working with Gaia,
Persephone brings about the renewal and rebirth of spring.
Moving into a highly active, more “physical” presence in spring
– action, movement, motion, blossoming…
{versus the deep “intuitive” presence she has in winter – mental, reflection, rest, preparation…}
Just as spring burst forth from winter, when the time is right
Persephone will give you the extra push
to put all that has been reflected upon and prepared for during winter’s reflection,
into motion.
In the spring, she brings beauty, light, and bounty forward, accessible for all who would call on her.
